What is The Catholic Foundation's purpose? To provide optimal donor services to foster philanthropy, own and manage funds and make grants to advance the priorities of the Roman Catholic Church in northern Colorado. Through the generosity of our donors, we provide financial support to Catholic educational, service and religious organizations in order to ensure a promising future for the Catholic community in northern Colorado and those whom that community reaches.
Is The Catholic Foundation part of the Archdiocese of Denver? No. The Catholic Foundation is an independent nonprofit corporation entirely separate from the Archdiocese of Denver and any other organization. The Foundation is not legally connected to any organization and is a separately registered corporation under Colorado law. However, the Foundation aspires to serve the missions of the Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic community. Consequently, many of our grants go to parishes, schools and Catholic charitable organizations affiliated with the Archdiocese and within its geographical boundaries.
How can my family and I create a fund or donate to an endowment fund of The Catholic Foundation? There are a number of different avenues that one may take to give to the Foundation. The Catholic Foundation can assist you in selecting the most appropriate giving opportunity for their individual situation. Donors can give to the Foundation in the following ways: Outright gifts of cash or securities, Life Income Gifts, Life Estate Gifts, Charitable Lead Trusts, and Bequests.
Are contributions to The Catholic Foundation tax deductible? Yes, to the extent allowable under IRS regulations. The Catholic Foundation is classified as a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization. We suggest that a donor contact their tax advisor or accountant regarding your personal tax benefit circumstances.
What investment strategy does The Catholic Foundation follow? The investment strategy is conservative, with an emphasis on limiting risk through diversification of assets. The Foundation takes very seriously its stewardship responsibilities to invest prudently, yet achieve a reasonable rate of return so that the philanthropic goals of the donors and long-term needs of the community are met.
Who manages The Catholic Foundation's investments? The Catholic Foundation's investments are consistent with the Social Responsibility Guidelines of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and are monitored by the Foundation's Investment Committee in consultation with Monticello Associates, a well-respected investment advisory firm.
Can gifts be spread over several years? Yes, gifts may be paid over multiple years (typically three to five years). Please contact The Catholic Foundation to discuss pledge period and payment timing.
Can gifts be made through an estate? Yes, a gift can be made through an estate. Its valuation will be based on an equation that takes into account the type of gift, the donor's age, and a number of other factors.
