Effective January 9, 1998, the IRS has determined that The Catholic Foundation is exempt from Federal Income tax under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to The Catholic Foundation are deductible under section 170 of the Code. The Catholic Foundation is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the Code. The IRS recognizes The Catholic Foundation as a “public charity.”
Further, The Catholic Foundation of Northern Colorado is a publicly supported Foundation under Internal Revenue Code Section 509(a)(1) and Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) because it receives substantial support from direct or indirect contributions from the general public. As such, the Foundation receives favorable tax status and is not subject to the tax regulations governing private foundations.
